Derivative Bath

Gel packs for derivative baths allow you to cool the perineal area while remaining mobile: at the office, on the go, or during the night. Day and night formats, reversible hot-cold models, covers, and protective towels.

Why practice the derivative bath?

The derivative bath consists of cooling the crotch area using a cold gel pack, slipped directly into your underwear. Popularized in France by the work of France Guillain, the practice of derivative baths is incorporated into the daily routines of thousands of people, both women and men.

The reasons for taking it up are varied. Many seek the sensation of freshness and lightness throughout the day, or comfort during hot weather. Others incorporate it into a slimming routine, or associate it with the relief they seek for heavy legs, hemorrhoidal discomfort, perineal sensitivity after childbirth, or recovery after sports.

Applying cold to this area is by no means a fad: it is a practice commonly recommended by midwives in the days following childbirth, and more broadly recommended by healthcare professionals in cases of perineal or hemorrhoidal discomfort. The gel pack adopts this well-known principle in a format that you can wear all day instead of having to lie down.

What regular practitioners report is, above all, a habit that is quickly established: one generally starts with a session in the evening at home, then extends it to the day once a rhythm is found. Many emphasize the discretion of the device, which no one notices under clothing, and the simplicity of the action once a rotation of packs is in place.

The principle can be summed up in one word: mobility. Where a sitz bath immobilizes you in a basin, the gel pack goes everywhere with you and remains unobtrusive.

Which gel pack should you choose?

All our packs are based on the same principle: a gel that stays cold for a long time, a shape designed to fit the area and stay in place, and a fabric cover that prevents any direct contact with the skin. What distinguishes them is when you use them.

The day pack, discreet and compact

Compact models slip into your underwear and are invisible under clothing. This is the preferred format for use at the office, in the car, or while walking. Most of our customers own several: while one is being worn, the others are cooling in the freezer. This is why our complete kits contain three.

The night pack, larger and reversible

Night packs are designed to stay in place during sleep for longer sessions. Some are reversible cold / hot: a few seconds in the microwave are enough to use them as a hot compress, to alternate according to your needs.

Covers and towels

The soft fabric cover protects the skin, absorbs condensation, and extends the life of the pack. Protective towels are placed between the pack and the clothing. These are the accessories most frequently repurchased, as they are machine washable.

How to use a derivative bath pack

  1. Place the pack in the refrigerator or freezer.
  2. Take it out and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes if it comes from the freezer.
  3. Slide it into its cover, then position it in your underwear, in contact with the crotch.
  4. Keep it on for 20 minutes to several hours depending on your comfort, replacing it when it warms up.
  5. Rinse with clear water and lay flat to dry.

Most practitioners repeat the process one to three times a day. With two or three packs in rotation, you will always have one ready to use.

Precautions and contraindications

The derivative bath is practiced on a sensitive area, so some precautions are necessary. Never apply the pack directly to the skin: the fabric cover is there for that purpose. Avoid prolonged sessions if you are sensitive to cold, in case of known circulatory disorders, or local loss of sensitivity. The practice is generally not recommended during heavy periods and in case of urinary tract infection.

If you are pregnant, following a medical treatment, or in case of doubt, seek advice from your doctor or midwife before starting.

Maintenance and lifespan

The packs can be rinsed with clear water and laid flat to dry; the covers are machine washable. Kept clean and dry between uses, they will last for years. The gel is non-toxic and the packs are indefinitely reusable, with no consumables to repurchase.
