You received a lot of preparation for childbirth. For the weeks that follow, much less. This 18-page guide brings together comfort measures for the first few weeks.

How do I wash without it pulling? How long should I keep the cold on, and how often? Can I take a sitz bath? And what about the first bowel movement, how will that go? These are the questions we didn't have time to ask at the maternity ward, and which come back at three in the morning.

What you will find inside

  • Washing with water, step-by-step: the method commonly recommended by midwives after birth, and how to do it at home with one hand.
  • Cold on the perineum: application duration, frequency during the first few days, mandatory protection — with a reference table.
  • Sitz bath: exact temperature, duration, what to add to the water, and what to use to do it without having to climb into a bathtub.
  • Sitting without pain: the cushion with a center cutout, how to sit, breastfeeding positions.
  • The first bowel movement — the most dreaded moment: the knees-up position and pursed-lip breathing that replace the need to push.
  • Hemorrhoidal discomfort, very common after childbirth and very rarely discussed.
  • Linens and organization: what to prepare before returning from the maternity ward, so you don't have to think about it later.
  • When to seek advice without delay: the list of warning signs to know, including mental health.
  • 14 concrete Q&As.

Who is this guide for?

For women returning from the maternity ward with a baby, a few quick instructions, and a long list of questions. It covers both vaginal birth and cesarean section — washing with water, the seat cushion, and avoiding the need to push are just as valid in both cases.

It is also for those preparing their hospital bag: chapter 8 lists what needs to be set up before returning home. And it is a baby gift that is much more useful than just another teddy bear.

How do you receive your e-book?

This is a 100% digital product. As soon as your order is confirmed, you will receive the download link for your booklet in PDF format by email. No package to wait for, no shipping costs. If you don't see it arrive, be sure to check your junk mail.

The file can be read on a computer, tablet, e-reader, and smartphone — including at three in the morning, with one hand.

Q&A

Does this replace my midwife?
No, and the booklet repeats it: instructions from the maternity ward and your midwife always take precedence. This guide answers the practical "how-to": durations, temperatures, frequencies, and organization.

What about after a cesarean?
Chapter 10 covers this question. Washing with water, the cushion, and advice on the first bowel movement are just as applicable — the lack of pushing is even more important with an abdominal scar.

Do I need to have equipment ready already?
No. The guide indicates what is actually useful and what can wait.

Can I give it as a gift?
The file is intended for personal use. Its reproduction and distribution are not authorized.

Precautions

Chapter 9 is entirely devoted to the signals that should lead you to call your midwife, doctor, or maternity ward without delay: fever, heavy bleeding, increasing pain, redness of stitches, calf pain, shortness of breath, and mental health — which is part of postpartum recovery just like anything else.

This booklet brings together comfort measures. It does not constitute medical advice and does not replace your postnatal follow-up.
