“Take a sitz bath.” You’ve been told that, but you haven’t been told how. This 19-page guide fills exactly that gap.

Hot water or cold water? How long? In the bathtub? Should you add salt, baking soda, an antiseptic? How many times a day? You leave the maternity ward, the clinic, or the pharmacy with the instruction—and the real questions arise once you get home.

Who is this guide for?

Anyone who has been advised to take sitz baths without being given instructions. This is most common in postpartum recovery—midwives commonly recommend them in the days following birth, particularly after an episiotomy or tearing—but also in cases of hemorrhoidal discomfort, post-surgery recovery, or simply for comfort at the end of the day.

The booklet is also intended for those who already practice them but are still unsure about the temperature, duration, or additives.

Questions / Answers

Sitz bath or derivative bath: what's the difference?
The former keeps you immobile in water for about fifteen minutes; the latter is worn and allows you to stay mobile for hours. The booklet explains when to favor one or the other—many people practice both.

Do you need a bathtub?
No, and that is precisely the point of Chapter 3: a basin placed on the toilet requires 3 to 4 liters of water compared to 40 to 80 in a bathtub, and requires nothing to step over.

What format is the file in?
A4 PDF, 19 illustrated pages, readable anywhere, without any specific application.

Can I give it as a gift?
The file is intended for personal use. Its reproduction and distribution are not authorized.

Precautions

Chapter 8 deals in detail with precautions: maximum temperature, maximum duration, pregnancy, post-surgery recovery, diabetes and loss of sensation, circulatory disorders, broken skin, children, and the signs that should lead you to consult a doctor without delay.

In postpartum recovery as well as post-surgery, your practitioner's instructions always take precedence over those in this booklet.
